A copper pendant had been discovered in northern Iraq that was dated to circa 8700 B.C.E.

With the help of copper implements, King Zoser, founder of the Third Dynasty of Egypt, built the first great pyramid, the Pyramid of Saqqara, about 2900 B.C.E.                                                                                                                           It wasn't until circa 4000 B.C.E. did gold appear on the scene as humankind’s second industrial metal. Copper is the earth's 25th most abundant element. Usually copper is found in such minerals as Azurite, Bornite and Malachite and in sulfides such as Chalcopyrite, Chalcosine and Coveline, or oxides like Cuprite. It is also found in contact zones between igneous rocks and limestone. Corundum is the second hardest natural mineral known to science. The hardest mineral, diamond is 4 times harder than Corundum. Ruby is the red variety of corundum, the red color in ruby is caused by trace amounts of the element chromium. Sapphire is the non-red variety of corundum.
Thought to be one of the crystals in the breastplate of the Hebrew High Priest.                                                                Best Field Indicators are extreme hardness, density and crystal habit.                                                                               Corundum occurs in Burma; Sri Lanka; North Carolina and Montana, USA.
